Fore!

One of my favorite things about being an editor is that more often than not, real-life interests and passions actually intersect with what you are asked to write about. In this month’s magazine, I was happily immersed in the minutiae of political products and campaigns, which affords me the luxury to poke some fun at politics in the middle of my thousand or so words. I think, no matter who you are rooting for (or against), it’s good to try and see the lighter side of life. Next month I again get the chance to mix work and pleasure, namely, in a feature article on golf and the promotional products industry. While I don’t think I’ll get to expense any rounds in the name of research, I did get to troll through a couple of trade shows talking to people about what’s new and notable for the links.

Though (due to Philly weather patterns) I have not had a chance to try it, I am intrigued by the Birdie Ball—a product designed to one-up and perhaps even replace the good old practice whiffle ball. Check out www.birdieball.com for the full rundown on the product, which essentially looks like a plastic napkin ring and apparently flies remarkably similar to an actual golf ball. I’d love to hear if anyone has tried them.

I also liked the products by these companies: Ball Pro (www.ballpro.com), Golf Plus and their golf ball globe (www.golfplusinc.com) and Ogio (www.ogio.com) with golf bags that bring with them a cool factor of about 13 (out of 10). Again, let me know if you like the products or if you think there another good golf item that deserves mention.
