Sex and the City Meets Promotional Apparel? Absofreakinglutely!

June 6 marked the 15th anniversary of the premier of Sex and the City—or when television viewers across the country got “carried away.”
In honor of the event, E! has aired mini-marathons of the show, and thanks to the Style Network I’ve already seen the first Sex and the City (SATC) movie three times this month (my husband is thrilled … especially since I own it on DVD). We could sit here and argue that SATC is nothing more than a show that aggrandizes a group of needy, shallow women looking for love and working to support an unhealthy shoe addiction (we all know Carrie Bradshaw wouldn’t be able to replenish worn Manolos on a newspaper columnist’s salary). Or we could take the opposite route and engage in an endless debate over what makes me “a Miranda” and you “a Charlotte.” I prefer to talk fashion, though.
With the series now in the thick of its awkward teenage years, do the clothes hold up? Of course … it’s just considered vintage now (duh!). And despite suffering a previous flop after her Bitten line for Steve & Barry’s folded in 2009, Sarah Jessica Parker particularly remains relevant. News recently broke that she, along with Manolo Blahnik president George Malkemus, are unveiling a new collection in 2014. Available exclusively at Nordstrom, the line will include footwear, handbags and trench coats.
Feeling inspired to pull out your SATC fashion ambitions that you tucked away after watching the second movie? Here’s a fun way to use promotional apparel and accessories to help clients channel their inner Carrie/Miranda/Samantha/Charlotte.
Carrie Bradshaw: Oversized flowers, 10 strands of pearls, little ballerina-inspired ensembles, SHOES—these are what I associate with Carrie. However, her personalized “Carrie” necklace tops the list. The Alison & Ivy Sterling Silver Necklace from Hampden Corporation captures some classic Carrie (although I’m not sure who Rebecca is). Written in Petite Miles Script, the necklace is made in your client’s choice of solid Sterling Silver, 10K or 14K gold.
Miranda Hobbes: Were you expecting to see some corporate gear? The no-nonsense lawyer, Miranda, often struggles to escape the demands of her professional life. When she is successful, we often see Miranda donning a pair of bold earrings while sipping on some cocktails with the girls (well, at least later Miranda’s taste in accessories evolves). The GUESS Earring from Castle Merchandise Inc. is perfect for clients looking to trade in their studs. These baby chandelier earrings feature jet and hematite stones.
Samantha Jones: Brazen and beautiful, Samantha’s fashion sensibilities are synonymous with plunging necklines, off-the-shoulder-dresses, statement pieces—anything that commands attention, really. The Halter 2145 from Bishop Garment Co. helps fashionistas everywhere achieve the Samantha look. Featured in Monte fabric, the dress comes in sizes XS through XXL.
Charlotte York (MacDougal Goldenblatt): As described by E!, Charlotte embodied the essence of a “Park Avenue princess”—think preppy art dealer modeling feminine silhouettes and simple accessories. An accurate description, for sure, but I also view Charlotte as a Polka Dot princess. If your clients want to add a little prep to their step, try the Puma Ladies Watercolor Polka Dot Skirt from Pro Golf Premiums. It features dryCELL fabrication, a back welt pocket and an embroidered PUMA Cat logo at the left hem.
