Since “Stranger Things” will enjoy at least four, possibly five, seasons, everybody who follows the Netflix creation should expect for its masterminds to continue to fill episodes with 1980s references and attire. So impressive has the show’s track record for shout-outs become that Purdue University brought back a retro T-shirt after it briefly appeared on a Season 3 episode of the show.

Any creative work not set in the present day stands a great chance of impressing the masses with any acknowledgment of a previous period, event or fashion selection, and “Stranger Things” has been blowing people away with such nods since its 2016 debut. This particular occasion is going to register as a profitable, not to mention geographically suitable, promotion for Purdue since the school is located in Indiana, which also serves as the setting for the series.
Come next Saturday, everyone who geeked out on the show’s inclusion of the top that featured a vintage logo on the left sleeve and the Purdue wordmark in gold across the chest will be able to display pride in the West Lafayette school whose impressive alumni list includes Neil Armstrong, Drew Brees, Jim Gaffigan and Orville Redenbacher.

While Indiana inhabitants will certainly be the main consumers who are eager to purchase the product, the Purdue team store’s website will make it available for everyone who has an affinity for nostalgia and/or “Stranger Things.” For again showing that what is old—although we really don’t want to think of items from the 1980s as that aged—can be new again, the Netflix creation will have fans definitely pondering who will receive the next series of fashion-centered commendations through the supernatural scripts. As the plots thicken and the characters age, the rest of the decade is fair game for the creators to do as they please, so any garment that came to life or gained prestige in that period could very well end up becoming the successor to Purdue University’s retro T-shirt as the must-have item among fans.
