CPSC Votes to Require Third-party Testing for Children’s Products

Late last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) passed a series of regulations finalizing the requirements for testing children’s products. The CPSC voted 3-2 to require independent, third-party product testing for manufacturers, importers and private labelers of products “designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger.”

Seven months into its existence, the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s product safety database has been presented with its first legal challenge. An anonymous manufacturer in Maryland, listed as “Company Doe” in the lawsuit, has filed a motion to prevent SaferProducts.gov from publishing a complaint about one of its products.

The BIC Group today reported its nine-month results for 2011. For the period ended in September, the company posted a 3.8 percent net sales increase on a comparative basis. Net income was up 14.3 percent at 183.9 million euros.

California Supply Chain Disclosure Deadline Approaching

The deadline to comply with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 is less than three months away. The bill, which requires retail and manufacturing companies that do business in California to publicly disclose their efforts to eliminate slavery and human trafficking, has a compliance deadline of January 1, 2012.
