Gildan’s Q4 Earnings Down Nearly 15%, Shares Drop 30%

Gildan Activewear announced Thursday that its net earnings for the fourth quarter dropped 14.6 percent, with $48.5 million in 2011 versus $56.8 million in 2010. The company said the drop in sales was expected, and projected further losses in the first quarter of 2012 before income increases later in that year.

Kids’ Meal Promotional Toy Ban in San Francisco Begins Today

San Francisco’s Healthy Meal Incentive Ordinance, which goes into effect today, prevents restaurants from giving away promotional toys with kids’ meals. McDonald’s responded this morning by changing its policy in the city, allowing parents to buy the toys for $0.10 with the purchase of a Happy Meal.

USPS to Raise Shipping Rates 4.6 Percent

USPS has announced a series of price increases for next year. Shipping services will increase an average 4.6 percent, Priority Mail will increase an average 3.1 percent, and Express Mail prices will increase an average 3.3 percent on January 22.
